Which diode laser should a salon choose?
It depends on your client flow. A starting salon is fine with a portable 600-1200 W machine. A salon with steady bookings needs 1000-1200 W, a busy clinic 2000 W with a compressor chiller. If many of your clients have dark or tanned skin, an 808 + 1064 nm combination makes sense.
How much does a diode laser cost?
From 9,200 EUR for a portable 600 W machine to 21,200-23,000 EUR for 2000 W machines with a freon chiller. The Italian Overline Infinity Extreme with 808 + 1064 nm costs 36,900-43,400 EUR depending on configuration. Prices include VAT.
What to look at besides watts?
Treatment depth is set by wavelength: 808 nm reaches 3-5 mm. Results depend not on the advertised wattage but on fluence (energy density in J/cm²), the real current on the diode stack and who made the stack. Machines from 1600 W need a compressor freon chiller, otherwise they overheat under full load.

Diode or alexandrite laser?
An 808 nm diode laser is the universal standard for all skin types (I-VI) and coarse hair, reaching 3-5 mm deep. Alexandrite 755 nm works better on fine light hair on fair skin (I-III), but carries a higher risk of burns and pigmentation on darker skin. For a mixed clientele a diode laser is more versatile and safer.
Does a diode laser remove grey and light hair?
No. An 808 nm laser targets melanin, so it is not effective on grey and light fine hair. That is physics, not a flaw of the machine. Electrolysis is used for such hair.
